PATHOGEN POWERPOINT PROJECT For this project, you are going to research a pathogen, either bacterial or viral, and create a power point presentation, using the template provided on the Global drive. Projects must be completed and submitted to Global Drive Student Submission (Carol.Hensley file) for your block by the end of the block on lab day. This paper, and the rubric, are on my website in case you need an extra copy or are absent lab day. We will present your power point to the class our last day, but you MUST be present to get presentation points. Slide 1: Name of the disease, the pathogen that causes it, your name and block, and citations Slide 2: Nature of the disease: What are the key symptoms? What body system(s) does it affect? Slide 3: Nature of the pathogen: Is it bacteria? Virus? What are its characteristics? * If bacteria: shape, gram stain, oxygen requirement * If virus: shape, DNA or RNA core, lytic or lysogenic (You need to include an image of the bacteria or virus only, no patients!!!!) Slide 4: Transmission of the disease (how do you get infected) Slide 5: Is there a treatment and/or cure of the disease? If so, what is it? Slide 6: Prevention of disease Slide 7: 3 interesting facts about the disease and/or the pathogen RUBRIC Slide 1: Your name, block ____ / 1 Disease name ____ / 1 Pathogen name ____ / 1 Citation(s) (URLs) ____ / 1 Symptoms ____ / 3 Body System(s) Affected ____ / 1 Bacteria or Virus ____ / 1 Characteristics ____ / 3 Slide 4: Transmission ____ / 2 Slide 5: Treatment/cure ____ / 2 Slide 6: Prevention of disease ____ / 2 Slide 7: 3 Interesting facts ____ / 3 Slide 2: Slide 3: Creativity: ____ / 3 Accuracy: ____ / 3 Simple wording: ____ / 3 Uploaded copy of power point: ____ / 2 Presentation of power point: ____ / 3 TOTAL ____ / 35 Bacteria: * Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) * Bacterial pneumonia (Strep pneumoniae) * Tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) * Peptic ulcer (Helicobacter pylori) * Cholera (Vibrio cholera) * Legionnaire's Disease (Legionella pneumophila) * Bacterial meningitis (Neisseria meningitidis) * Strep throat (Strep pyogenes) * Salmonellosis (S. typhimurium) * Bubonic (Black) Plague (Yersinia pestis) * Scarlet Fever (S. pyogenes) * Tetanus (C. tetani) * Lyme's Disease (Borellia burgdorferi) * Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (Rickettsia rikettsia) Virus: * Common cold (Rhinovirus) * Chicken pox (Shingles) (Varicella zoster) * Rabies * Ebola * Influenza * Hepatitis C * Mumps * Measles * Rubella * Zika * West Nile * Polio
