The Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists The Society was formed in 1990 with a vision to support the growing numbers of pharmacists dedicated to practicing, teaching and performing research in the area of infectious diseases. Since its inception, The Society has supported the appropriate use of antimicrobials through education, research and publication. The Society achieves this through collaboration with other professional healthcare associations, such as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) by co-sponsoring educational programs at major medical meetings that promote the appropriate use of antimicrobials and controlling the spread of antimicrobial resistance. The Society members are integral parts of major national and international regulatory and decision making committees on antimicrobials including: • Anti-Infective and Anti-Viral Drug Advisory Committee of the FDA • Therapeutic Working Committees on Antimicrobial Resistance with the CDC • Panel members for committees on the treatment of HIV infection for the Department of Health and Human Services • National and International Consensus Conferences on Antimicrobial Resistance SIDP is dedicated to the advancement of infectious diseases pharmacotherapy through enhanced clinical practice, research and training.
