We have studied a variety of advertising techniques and strategies. You will now create your own complete advertising campaign for a product based upon the scenario below. ADVERTISERS WANTED! A Cereal Company has just come out with a new cereal that they need to advertise. We want YOU to come up with an effective and fun campaign to introduce the new product to the public. Here’s what you need to know about the product and the campaign: TARGET AUDIENCE: Teenagers/young adults, ages 13-20. PRODUCT: Breakfast cereal (or another food product) TYPES OF ADVERTISING NEEDED TO SELL THE PRODUCT: a catchy, descriptive, appropriate name for the product. Choose a name that you think will make teenagers and young adults want to buy the product. a new, appealing original package for the cereal, which gives the name of the product and a picture (mascot, the cereal, etc.) on the front, a brief description of the product on the back, the company logo, the list of ingredients, and other information (health content: fat, calories, vitamins). Find an old cereal box and glue your ad on all sides of the box. Then write an explanation page, telling your teacher a. why you chose the name b. which marketing strategies you used c. how you used the language of advertising. You must also choose one of the methods below to advertise your product: (If working in pairs, choose two) a leaflet (mini-brochure) to send out in the mail, telling about the new product, including a coupon. Leaflets are folded papers which describe a product and try to convince the reader to buy it. They are meant to be informative. Two different magazine advertisements. Create two full page ads for your cereal. It can be hand-drawn or computer generated, but must include colour, creative graphics, the name of the product and the company name. a one-minute radio advertisement. Create a short script for a one to one-and-a-half minute radio advertisement. Write a script. A recording could be used for your presentation, but you MUST have a script. a television commercial (6 frame minimum) Use a story board to indicate what will be seen on the screen at each moment of the commercial. Describe who or what is on the screen, what is happening, what is heard (sounds, dialogue, music) and the angle of the camera shot. Further information will be given to help you with this part.
