In fractions, the INHERES IN and the TOWARDS (etc.) must be comparable, e.g.
Observable: Inheres in=Cell, Has location=Tissue, Towards=CD11c+CD19
and not
Observable: Inheres in=Tissue, Towards=CD11c+CD19
Role inclusions can be made to get expected inference:
INHERES_IN o HAS_LOCATION subPropertyOf INHERES_IN
RELATIVE TO should not be used for stating prefixes to units, e.g.
Observable: Inheres in=Blast cell, Towards=CD16 blast cell, Relative to=100 blast cellsUnit=%
When RELATIVE TO is used, RELTO INHERES IN should also be specified or false subsumptions
might occur in that the observable with unspecified RELTO INHERES IN would subsume any
observable with a specified attribute, e.g.
Observable: INHERES IN=Urine, TOWARDS=alpha aminobutyrate, RELATIVE TO=Creatinine,
RELTO INHERES IN=Urine
What about catalysis (a process) and related property types?
E.g. 24056-4 A-L-Iduronidase Fib-cCnt
Observable:
PROPERTY TYPE=Catalytic activity content,
INHERES IN=Substance
OUTPUT OF=Catalysis
HAS_AGENT=alpha-L-iduronidase // enzyme
HAS_DURATION=1h(or is that the unit???)
RELATIVE TO=Fibroblast
IUPAC Gold Book:
catalytic activity content,
Also contains definition of: catalytic content
Catalytic activity of the component divided by the mass of the system.
Notes:
1. In clinical chemistry the component is usually an enzyme.
2. The term catalytic content is accepted for use in clinical chemistry.
3. Use of the term level as a synonym for concentration is deprecated.
4. In describing a quantity, content must be clearly differentiated from concentration.
Should there be a general property type for evaluations/interpretations/impressions?
14044-2
Cortisone 24H Ur-mRate
Observable:
PROPERTY TYPE=Mass rate,
INHERES IN=Cortisone,
OUPUT OF=Excretion,
HAS_AGENT(HAS_LOCATION?)=Renal parenchyma/Glomerul,
HAS_DURATION(TIME_ASPECT?)=24H (or unit?)
Where is the Urine? Direct site?
INR, e.g. 34714-6
INR Bld Qn
Observable:
PROPERTY TYPE=Relative duration,
CHARACTERIZES=Tissue factor induced coagulation,
HAS_LOCATION=Blood, (or DIRECT SITE??)
TECHNIQUE=INR
Doses in relation to Pharmaceutical... hierarchy?
E.g. 4132-7 Atenolol Dose
E.g. NPU10576
Pt—Lactose(administered); am.s.(p.o.) = ? mmol
Observables of procedures (Tracker item artf7850),
E.g. 33035-7 Semen investigation type Smn
Observable:
PROPERTY TYPE=taxon/PRID/type,
CHARACTERIZES=Semen analysis (procedure)
No DIRECT SITE is given
Is “titer” a property type or a technique? Do we need “Arbitrary concentration (titer)”?
What about “4th identified” in 17901-0 Bacteria Throat Aerobe Cult org #4? Is “4th identified” part
of the observation procedure rather than a precondition? In that case, multiple TECHNIQUE values
must be allowed, e.g.
Observable:
PROPERTY TYPE=Linnean taxon, (is “Linnean” Observation procedure or PROPERTY
TYPE?)
INHERES IN=Bacterium,
HAS_LOCATION=Pharynx,
TECHNIQUE=4th identified,
TECHNIQUE=Aerobic culture
What about “presence” observables, e.g. 14609-2 ANA Prt Ql. Currently the “Arbitrary
concentration” property type is used.
In NPU allergy properties NCCLS (CLSI) codes are referenced, e.g.
NPU13208 P—Peanut antibody(IgE); arb.subst.c.(NCCLS/f13; proc.) = ? × 10³ arb.unit/l
where “f13” is the NCCLS code for peanut.
From I. Bruunshuus, L. K. Poulsen and H. Olesen. Properties and units in the clinical laboratory
sciences. Part XVI. Properties and units in clinical allergology (Technical Report) (IFCC-IUPAC
1999):
NCCLS m5, candida albicans
Should be a uniform chemicals naming standard, e.g. Barium(ii) or Barium ion. Sometimes in
Snomed CT the ion is a synonym to the basic form, e.g. “Ferric ion” synonym to “Iron (substance)”
Pauci scale types (low resolution ratio scale)?
Entitic numbers:
NPU20074 Trcs(B)—Immunoglobulin M; entitic num. = ?
Is RNA a technique or a component (Towards)?
NPU07177 Saliva—Bacterium(RNA; spec.); arb.c.(proc.) = ?
Multiple meronymic (part-of) levels: DNA of mycobacterium of secretion of bronchus
NPU16465 Secr(Bronchus; spec.)—Mycobacterium(DNA); taxon(type; proc.) = ?
