Corrections for Test 1
Fill in the blanks:
 In plants, ________ develop into pollen grains.
I got this question wrong because I got confused with sperm since pollen grain is the
male reproductive part in the flower and that’s where sperm is.
The correct answer for this question was “microspores”
 Gymnosperms have evolved many relationships with animals in pollination.
This was a True/False question. I said true because I got confused with angiosperm which
is actually evolved many relationships with animals in pollination and seed dispersal. So
the correct answer is “false”.

Dominant gametophyte, swimming sperm.
(A) Bryophyta, (B) Pterophyta, (C) Angiosperms, (D) Cycadophyta, (E)
Chlorophyta.
This was a matching question. The answer I picked was (D) Cycadophyta, which is
wrong because cycadophyda is some group of seed plants those are gymnosperms,
and since gymnosperms do not have swimming sperm, so this is wrong. The right
answer is (C) angiosperms because they use water as one of their medium for
dispersal of seeds. Actually the answer was (A) Bryophyta.

Which of the following “vegetables” you can buy at a supermarket is NOT a
fruit?
(A) pumpkin, (B) walnut, (C) Radish, (D) sunflower seed, (E) pea.
This was one of the extra credit questions. The answer I chose was (A) pumpkin, which is
a wrong answer because mostly vegetables don’t have seeds, but fruits do and the only
one in the list w/out seeds is (C) Radish, which is the correct answer.

C3 plants undergo _____ under hot and dry condition when rubisco binds to ____.
(A) Photoreduction, H2; (B) photorespiration, CO2; (C) photorespiration, O2;
(D)fermentation, CO2; (E) fermentation, O2.
This was one of the multiple choice questions. The answer I picked was (D) fermentation,
Co2, which is wrong because fermentation causes and organic substance to break down
into simpler substances. The correct answer is (C) photorespiration, O2 because C3 is a
part of photosynthesis occurs in dark reaction which undergoes photorespiration where
O2 is the substitution for CO2.

Each of the following is an general characteristic of bryophytes except.
(A) a cellulose cell wall. (B) vascular tissue. (C) chlorophylls a and b. (D) being
photosynthetic autotrophs. (E) being eukaryotic.
For this question I chose (E) being eukaryotic, which is wrong because bryophytes is just
a division of the plant kingdom that includes mosses and liverworts. These are plants
with rhizoids rather than roots, and little or not vascular tissue. Most of the plants
anyways do have cell wall, chlorophyll, are autographs, and eukaryotic except bryophytes
do not have (B) vascular tissue, which is the correct answer.

Which structure is common to both gymnosperms and angiosperms?
(A) carpel. (B) ovule. (C) ovary. (D) anthers. (E) all of the above.
For this question I chose (C) ovary, which is wrong answer because gymnosperms do not
have ovary, they are naked seeds. Where as angiosperms has ovary, where they develop
their flower or fruit. Other two choices carpel and anthers are part of flower and again
gymnosperms do not have flowers so those can’t be the rights answers and therefore (E)
all of the above is eliminated too. The only one choice we have left is (B) Ovule which is
the correct answer.

Which of the following parts develops into a seed?
(A) ovule, (B) ovary, (C) fruit, (D) style, (E) stamen
The answer I chose for this question is (E) Stamen, which is a wrong answer because
stamen is just a male part of a flower where sperm is produced. The correct answer for
this is (A) ovule, because that is the part of the reproductive organs in seed plants that
develops into seed.

A potato is a modifie
(A) leaf. (B) stem. (C) root (D) flower (E) cork.
I chose (C) root for this question, which is wrong because potato is modified (B) stem not
root.

The proton pump
(A) pumps H+ out of the cell. (B) pumps H+ into the cell. (C) generates energy by
producing ATP. (D) provides energy for active transport. (E) none of the above.
The answer I chose for this question is (D) provides energy for active transport, which is
wrong answer because I thought it provides energy for active transport but the correct
answer is (A) pumps H+ out of the cell, which makes sense because H+ is a proton and it
pumps the proton.
