Monday Lesson Topic: Introduction to the including the correct names and Students will complete a diagram of the Earth’s layers from their layers of the earth, their location and the properties of each. notes. properties. Tuesday Lesson Topic: Continental drift and plate tectonics. I can explain the movement of the earth’s plates based on the theory of plate tectonics. Students will watch a video titled “ Continents Adrift: An Introduction to Continential Drift and Plate Tectonics” Students will complete a video guide over the topics in the video. Students will create a foldable over the topics in Ch 17.1. Wednesday Lesson Topic: Introduction to continential drift and plate tectonics. I can discuss and explain the theory behind plate tectonics. Students will complete a lab over density. Students will complete a foldable on plate tectonics from yesterday. Thursday Lesson Topic: Plate movement and plate boundaries I can describe how Earth’s tectonic plates result in many geologic features, compare the three types of plate boundaries and discuss the process associated with subduction zones. Students will participate in a discussion about the results of the movement of the earth’s plates. Students will complete a writing assignment about the vocabulary associated with the three types of boundaries that occur between tectonic plates. Students will participate in an activity about all three boundaries. Friday Lesson Topic: Seafloor spreading I can successfully complete the activity that helps to explain the effects of seafloor spreading. Students will complete an activity that explains seafloor spreading, creation of new ocean floor, the dating of the seafloor, and the methods used to determine these.
