Skills and outcomes:
With a focus on the Amazon Rainforest the following skills and outcomes will be covered:
Ask and answer geographical questions about the physical and human characteristics of a location.
Explain own views about locations, giving reasons.
Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features.
Use a range of resources to identify the key physical features of a location.
Describe geographical similarities and differences between countries.
Milestones: Basic- recall information and ask basic questions, memorise and repeat facts. Advancing – interpret
information and summarise it, compare now and then. Deep – appraise evidence and prove facts.
Art
Skills and outcomes:
Use experiences, other subjects (mainly Geography) across the curriculum and ideas as inspiration for artwork.
Develop and share ideas in a sketchbook and in finished products. Improve mastery of techniques.
Collage: Select and arrange materials for a striking effect. Ensure work is precise. Use coiling, overlapping,
tessellation, mosaic and montage.
Drawing: Use different hardness of pencils to show, tone and texture. Annotate sketches to explain and elaborate
ideas. Sketch lightly so mistakes do not need to be rubbed out. Use hatching and cross hatching to show tone and
texture.
Milestones: Basic – follow instructions or methods. Advancing – compare, apply skills. Deep – design and create.
Science
Skills and outcomes:
Focus: Plants
Identify and describe the functions of different parts of the flowering plants; roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers.
Explore the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, lght, water, nutrients from soil and room to grow) and
how they vary from plant to plant.
Investigate the way in which water is transported within plants.
Explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and
seed dispersal.
Milestones: Basic – ask basic questions, describe and observe, follow basic instructions and methods, measure, list
and label. Advancing – applying skills to begin solving a problem, explain a method, identify patterns and make
predictions and make observations. Deep – hypothesise, plan investigation and cite evidence.
Music
P.E
Skills and outcomes:
To play and perform solo and in groups, using voices and instruments. Improvise and compose music and recall
sounds. Use and understand musical notation. Appreciate and understand a wide range of musical performances
from a range of composers and musicians. Begin to develop an understanding of the history of music. Children will
follow a scheme of work in order to develop these skills, titled ‘Benjamin Britten – There was a monkey’.
Milestones: Basic – describing and following instructions, memorising patterns. Advancing – identifying patterns
and make observations, comparing styles. Deep – create and appraise music.
Skills and outcomes:
Football: To play competitive games and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending. To compare
personal performance with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best. Children
will participate in a unit of work where they will learn the skills necessary for football.
Swimming: Swim between 25 and 50 metres unaided. Use more than one stroke and coordinate breathing as
appropriate for the stroke being used. Coordinate leg and arm movements. Swim at the surface and below the
water.
Milestones: Basic – follow instructions to complete tasks, define skills. Advancing – apply skills, organise sequences
of movements, making observations and comparing and modifying. Deep – design and create.
Skills and outcomes:
To read, speak and write in Spanish. To look at and study the culture of Spain across the year. They will learn new
vocabulary and apply this to speaking and listening activities, building upon any existing prior knowledge.
