John Heminges and Henry Condell preserved his 36 plays “To
keep the memory of so worthy a friend and fellow alive”
THE MYSTERYYYYY???






His younger daughter Judith was illiterate;
His other daughter Susanna could do no more than sigh her name;
Shakespeare’s parents John and Mary were also illiterate;
No evidence he ever attended school;
A document with 6 signatures spelled and written in different ways;
A record by Jane Cox;
…but no clear, material proof to counter the argument that
Shakespeare was totally illiterate.

