DIRECTIONS: Use your textbook, class discussion, and any other available resource(s) to complete the
following questions. (150 WORDS ONLY)
1) Define Psychology. 1: Psychology is the study of an individual’s mindset or frame of mind
through experiments that are of an empirical nature. It can also be found through
observation.
2) Why study Psychology? (list at least 2 reasons)
ANMOL- I chose Psychology as a subject because I find it interesting and I feel that it will be needed in the
future to understand ethics and people in their workplace.
VIKRAM- The reason why I took psychology was due to the fact that the career line I want to get into is
law. For law I figured that I would need the ability to understand an individual’s mind and what type their
frame of mind is when they file a case which I would need to solve. That is why i believe I need to study a
human’s mindset and the different kinds of personality different people can have.
RAHUL-my main reason I choose psychology is that it would help me in the future.as I want to
be a business man I need to understand and foretell what exactly my costumers want.
3) What are the four goals of Psychology?
The four goals are: to understand or to study the human brain: To fathom the human behavioral
patterns: understanding how the hormones or the various chemicals of the body affect the brain of
a person: To get to the roots of how an individual’s mindset or frame of mind was created.
4) Roots of psychology
Sigmund Freud introduced the theory for psychology that the human subconscious could not exactly be
studied but it could be felt. He also gave analysis on the human brain and gave his successors (us) the
basis behind what a psyche people going through childhood have, he also gave the analysis behind sexual
desires and proved the face that a person’s behavior is due to him or her having a certain motive.
Explain Wundt’s idea of introspection.
Wundt’s idea was that if he really tried and made a person recount everything they did and why they did
it and how they felt about the activities they did, then he would gain an insight into their life and into
their psyche.
What role did William James play in the development of Psychology?
He set up one of the first psychology laboratory in the US and was also the psychologist who invented the
concept of functionalism.

Briefly describe the Psychoanalytic Approach to Psychology. Which psychologist is most closely
associated with this approach?
Sigmund Freud is the most related psychologist to this approach. This approach claims that the
childhood experiences an individual goes through is what shapes their traits, personality and
development of their development.
1. What are the key principles of the Behavioral Approach to Psychology? Which psychologists are
most closely associated with this approach?
Analysis of how learning occurs based reward and the punishment one may face upon doing certain things.
2. What are they key principles of Sociocultural Psychology?
The key features of Sociocultural psychology is that an individual’s learning process is affected by the
surrounding or their environment they live in. The environment has a huge impact on the learning process of
a person.
3. What are the key ideas of Biological Psychology?
Biological psychology is the use of biology to study how the hormones and different chemicals in the human
brain affect the most people think, feel emotions, etc.
