Op Koninginnenacht 2011 brengt jongerenvereniging Entrée in samenwerking met het Koninklijk
Concertgebouworkest twee unieke werelden samen in Het Concertgebouw. Het Koninklijk
Concertgebouworkest onder leiding van Stefan Asbury deelt deze avond het podium met de Canadese
singer-songwriter Patrick Watson en band Wooden Arms. Deze door-en-door muzikale alleskunner
bevindt zich al jarenlang in de voorhoede van de alternatieve popmuziek en speelde in Nederland
afgelopen jaren op festivals als Lowlands en Crossing Border. Het programma van RCO & Patrick Watson
bestaat uit speciaal gearrangeerd werk van Watson afgewisseld met hedendaags en twintigste-eeuws
orkestrepertoire.

He was a Polish composer and orchestral conductor. He was one of the major European composers of
the 20th century, and one of the preeminent Polish musicians during his last three decades. He earned
many international awards and prizes. His compositions (of which he was a notable conductor) include
four symphonies, a Concerto for Orchestra, a string quartet, instrumental works, concertos, and orchestral
song cycles. During his youth, Lutosławski studied piano and composition in Warsaw. His early works
were influenced by Polish folk music. His style demonstrates a wide range of rich atmospheric textures.
He began to develop his own characteristic composition techniques in the late 1950s. His music from this
period onwards incorporates his own methods of building harmonies from small groups of musical
intervals.

Tomás Luis de Victoria, soms ook in het Italiaans omgezet) aangeduid als Tommaso Luigi da Vittoria,
augustus was een Spaans componist. Victoria wordt beschouwd als één van de grootste Spaanse
componisten van zijn tijd. Op jonge leeftijd ging Victoria naar Rome om daar te studeren. Hij werd priester
en trad toe tot de congregatie van de Oratorianen. In 1586 keerde hij terug naar Spanje. Daar kwam hij in
Madrid in dienst van keizerin Maria van Spanje. Zijn muziek toont in haar polyfonie verwantschap met die
van Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, bij wie hij in Rome mogelijk gestudeerd heeft. Victoria leefde tijdens
het hoogtepunt van de contrareformatie en de muziek die hij schreef bestond dan ook voornamelijk uit
religieuze, vocale werken, zoals missen en motetten. Zijn bekende requiem, Officium Defunctorum 1605,
wordt nog geregeld uitgevoerd.

In 1587 Philip II honoured his desire to return to his native Spain, naming him chaplain to his sister, the
Dowager Empress María, daughter of Charles V, who had been living in retirement with her daughter
Princess Margarita at the Monasterio de las Descalzas de Clara at Madrid from 1581. In 1591, Victoria
became a godfather to his brother Juan Luis’s daughter, Isabel de Victoria. Victoria worked for 24 years at
Descalzas Reales, serving for 17 years as chaplain to the Empress until her death, and then as convent
organist. Victoria was also being paid much more at the Descalzas Reales than he would have earned as
a cathedral chapelmaster, receiving an annual income from absentee benefices from 1587–1611. When
the Empress Maria died in 1603, she willed three chaplaincies in the convent, with one going to Victoria.
According to Victoria, he never accepted any extra pay for being a chapelmaster, and became the
organist rather than the chapelmaster.[
