
Be able to discuss at least 4 of our bodies 1st line defenses
Be able to discuss the difference between Active and Passive Immunity
Be able to give examples of how you get Active and Passive Immunity
Know how these early Scientists helped us learn more about Infectious diseases- Louis Pasteur,
Robert Koch, and Joseph Lister
Know the 4 types of pathogens that cause infectious diseases
Discuss what a biological vector is and how it can transmit the disease
Discuss the 4 ways to spread an infectious disease
Discuss ways to boost our Immune system and generally stop the spread of Infectious Diseases
Know the difference between Infectious and Non Infectious Diseases
Know some Non Infectious Diseases- what they are and how they are treated (Cancer, Allergies
and Diabetes)
Know which STDs are bacterial and which are Viral- (gonorrhea, syphilis herpes, HIV)
Know the difference between Viral and Bacterial. Which can be treated with antibiotics and
which can be prevented with vaccines and stopped with antibodies
Be able to explain the 5 steps of Virus Reproduction
Know the difference between an Active and Latent Virus
Know what CDC stands for and how it helps us stops the spread of disease
Be able to discuss our Immunity Simulation Lab- know what an Antigen is and how antibodies
and produced to fight Antigens. Antibodies are specific and bind to the antigen and deactivate the
antigen. WBCs then come along and engulf the Antigen. In our lab the Antigen was the red dye,
Antibody was the lemon juice and Vinegar. WBC was the Antacid.
