Teacher: Susan Hammer Lesson Plans - Dates: 1/17 – 1/21 Grade/Subject: 7th grade Science Monday Tuesday Wednesday Do Now Do Now EQ-What is the theory of plate tectonics? What are the forces that drive sea-floor spreading and subduction? EQ- What are tectonic plates? What causes plate movement? What are the three types of plate boundaries? OBJ- I can demonstrate understanding of sea-floor spreading and subduction by completing a visual of both with 80% or higher accuracy. OBJ- I can demonstrate understanding of plate boundaries by completing a graphic organizer of the boundaries with 80% or higher accuracy. Instructional Strategies: Methods/Activities – Students will read about plate tectonics, paste notes into their notebook, and highlight the key points. After discussion of plate tectonics, students will draw and label visuals of subduction and sea-floor spreading. Instructional Strategies: Methods/Activities – Discuss the following: tectoinic plates, plate boundaries, movement of plates, and what causes plate movement Student will create a graphic organizer that describes each of the three plate boundaries. (convergent, divergent, transform) Evaluation: EXIT SLIP Notes pasted in notebook/highlighted key points Visuals of subduction and seafloor spreading Evaluation: EXIT SLIP Graphic organizer of Plate boundaries Thursday Friday Do Now EQ- What occurs as a result of the forces in the earth’s crust? OBJ- I can demonstrate understanding of forces in earth’s crust by completing graphic organizers of faulting, folding, and stresses with 80% or higher accuracy. Do Now Do Now EQ- What are tectonic plates? What causes plate movement? What are the three types of plate boundaries? OBJ- I can demonstrate understanding of plate boundaries by completing a graphic organizer of the boundaries and creating a puzzle of the Earth’s plates with 80% or higher accuracy. Instructional Strategies: Methods/Activities – Discuss the following: tectonic plates, plate boundaries, movement of plates, and what causes plate movement Student will create a graphic organizer that describes each of the three plate boundaries. (convergent, divergent, transform) Students will paste notes in their notebook and will highlight key points. Students will also be given a plate boundary puzzle to put together and paste in their notebook. Students must label the type of boundary at each plate. Evaluation: EXIT SLIP Graphic organizer of Plate boundaries Notes pasted/highlight key points Plate boundary puzzle/label type of boundaries Additional Information: Instructional Strategies: Methods/Activities – Discuss the following: convection currents, forces in earth’s crust, stresses, faults, folds Students will paste notes into their notebook and highlight key points Students will complete a graphic organizer that describes faults, folds, and stresses. Evaluation: EXIT SLIP Graphic organizer of stresses, folds, faults Notes pasted/highlight key points NO SCHOOL-SNOW
