Han Dynasty Advertisement
During the Han Dynasty, many new ideas, achievements, and inventions came about. You job is
to create an advertisement that sells or promotes one of these ideas, achievements, or inventions.
Here are some ideas:






Pretend you are a Han leader in need of more soldiers. You might make a “Help
Wanted” ad to try to recruit soldiers. Make sure to include what their job would be, how
long they’d have to serve, what weapons they might need to be skilled in, etc.
Pretend you are a member of the Han government who wants to hire civil servants. Write
a “Help Wanted” ad to attract qualified people to apply. Be sure to include what
government officials do, how someone becomes a government official, the benefits of
working for the government, and difficulties that applicants should know about.
Make an ad that tries to sell new inventions such as the crossbow, kite, chain pump,
wheelbarrow, paper, anesthetic, acupuncture, seismograph, wells, or compass!
Make a “Help Wanted” ad for jobs such as a farmer, ironworker, industry worker (silk or
salt), calligrapher, or acupuncturist. Make sure your ad included skills needed and
describes what the person would do in that job.
Pretend you are a doctor in the Han dynasty and advertising the services you can perform
to heal people.
Anything else creative that you can come up with that is similar to these examples should
work. Check with me about ideas other than the above.
***The most important thing is that your final project shows what you know about the Han
dynasty. Include details, images, and be creative!
