```Room 11 News
Reading- This week our theme is “Let’s Laugh.” The story is On My Way
to School. We will be learning about l blends this week. We will be
learning about proper nouns of the days, months, and holidays.
Math- Last week we learned another strategy to add numbers. We learned
to make ten and then add the remainder. Therefore our strategies that we
have been using are:
 counting on from the number Ex. 9+1, 9+2, or 9+3
 Knowing our doubles facts Ex. 1+1=2, 2+2=4, 3+3=6, etc.
 Finding doubles facts and adding or subtracting 1
o (6+7) if 6+6=12 then 6+7 is one more and equals 13.
o (8+7) if 8+8=16 then 8+7 is one less and equals 15.
 Make ten Ex. 5+7 Make ten 5+5=10, then add the 2 remaining. So
5+5=10+2=12 is the same as 5+7=12.
Again, your child will end up finding the answer in the way that makes
most sense to them. We need to practice these different strategies, but in the
end they get to decide which strategy works best for them.
Christmas Around the World- We have visited Germany and
Mexico so far. We’ll see what next week brings!

 Listen to your child read this book. A Parent signature is needed at
the top of the book. Send back to school.
