Ways to Practice Spelling
1. Practice Test- take a practice spelling test. You can spell them out
loud
or write them down.
2. Body Words- Use your body to make the letters to spell the words
(like in the song, YMCA)
3. Water Words- Use a paintbrush with water to paint your words on
the sidewalk, fence, or on the side of the house.
4. Magnet words- Use magnet letters to spell the words
5. Chalk Words- Use chalk to write your words on the sidewalk or
driveway.
6. Yarn Words- Cut strings of yarn and use them to form the letters to
spell your words
7. Scrabble Words- Use Scrabble tiles to spell out your words (you can
also get a bucket of letter tiles at Wal-mart)
8. ABC order- Write your spelling words in ABC order
9. Rainbow Words- Write your words in 3 different colors
10. Silly sentences- Use all your words in 10-12 sentences.
11. Picture words- Draw a picture and write your words in the picture
12. Story words- Write a short story using all your words.
13. Word search- Make a word search at www.puzzlemaker.com and find
your words
14. Surround words- Write your words on lined paper and trace the shape
of each word
15. Newspaper words- Cut out letters from magazines or newspapers to
spell your words
16. Pyramid words- Write your words by adding 1 letter at a time until the
entire word is spelled: r, ro, roo, root
17. Delicious words- Write your words in whipped cream, peanut butter,
etc.
18. Clean words- Write your word in shaving cream.
19. Dirty words- Write your words in mud or sand.
20. Pasta words- Write your words using ABC pasta or cereal
21. 3-D words- Roll clay into snakes and form the letters to spell the
words.
22. Cheer your words-Call out your words like a cheerleader, or spell them
in silly voices. Try whisper, monster voice, mouse voice, etc.
