Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers
An improper fraction is a fraction whose numerator (top number) is
larger than its denominator (bottom number).
Example:

*To turn an improper fraction into a mixed number, divide the numerator by the
denominator. The quotient or answer will become the whole number, your
remainder will become your numerator, and the denominator will stay the same.

Step 1: Divide the numerator by the
denominator.

problem, becomes the whole number. The
remainder becomes the numerator and the

*To turn a mixed number into an improper fraction, multiply the denominator by
the whole number and add the numerator. The answer becomes the numerator
and the denominator stays the same.
