Constitution By-laws Statement of purpose Nondiscrimination Policy Officers Faculty/staff advisor Constitution The constitution should be simple yet comprehensive and difficult to amend, leaving any specific procedural rules to be included in the by-laws. When amending the constitution, as with the by-laws, previous notice of any proposed changes are usually required to be given to the membership and should not be changed in the same meeting in which proposed. Article l - Name, Purpose, and Non-Discrimination Policy of the Organization. Section 1- Name: Fisher Sports Business Association (herein referred to as FSBA) Section 2 - Purpose: The FSBA seeks to provide the following services to Fisher students: Information/education about the wide array of available sports business job opportunities Networking opportunities with sports business professionals by engaging guest speakers On-site visits to sports organizations and facilities through the Job Trek Series Develop a sports business network by building and fostering relationships within the Ohio State community, the Ohio State alumni community, and local sports organizations Facilitate participation in sports by organizing intramural teams, interMBA competition teams, fantasy sports leagues, and group outings to sporting events Provide information about local sporting events and other athletic opportunities (i.e., running clubs, races, yoga, pilates, etc.) Section 3 - Non-Discrimination Policy: This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Article II - Membership: Qualifications and categories of membership. Section V.1: General Qualifications Membership is limited to currently enrolled Fisher graduate students. Others such as faculty, alumni, professionals, Spouses are encouraged to become members but as non-voting associate or honorary members. Section V.2: Procedures for Becoming a Member General membership status is contingent upon the submission of an application, accepted on a rolling basis, as well as the payment of membership dues. The application is to be decided on each year by the Executive Committee with an emphasis placed on maintaining continuity through largely similar membership applications from year to year. Section 3: Removal Any member may be removed from the group subject to a two-thirds vote of the Executive Committee and a clearly stated purpose for dismissal, submitted in writing to the Executive Committee at the time of the vote. Article III - Organization Leadership: Titles, terms of office, type of selection, and duties of the leaders. Organization leaders represent the Executive Committee and general membership and are elected or appointed from the ranks of the organization’s voting membership. Section V.1: The FSBA students shall elect annually from the graduate student body the following Executive Officers: President, Vice President(s), Web Master/Secretary, and Treasurer. Section V.3: President The President presides over all meetings of the FSBA and is responsible for implementing all decisions of the group. The President selects the time and place of all regular and special meeting. The President has primary responsibility for managing the office associate and for ensuring Council compliance with University, State, and Federal fiscal and personnel policies. Section V.4: Vice President(s) In the absence of the President, or if the President is temporarily unable to fulfill his or her duties, the Vice President shall serve in the President's place. The Vice President is responsible for ensuring that FSBA committee and member records are properly maintained. In the absence of the President, the Vice President presides over meetings of the Council. The Vice President shall fulfill other duties as directed by the Council, the Executive Committee, and the President. There may be multiple Vice Presidents. In the event of multiple Vice Presidents, the first organizing meeting will determine who will assume the role of the President should the President be unable to fulfill his or her duties Section V.5: Web Master/Secretary The Web Master/Secretary is responsible for keeping for maintaining records, and for conducting correspondence. The Web Master/Secretary shall fulfill other duties as directed by the Council, the Executive Committee, and the President. Section V.6: Treasurer The Treasurer handles all the finances of the FSBA and keeps an accurate record of its financial status at all times. The Treasurer shall fulfill other duties as directed by the FSBA. Section V.7: The FSBA has the authority to remove an Executive Officer only through the following procedure: V.7.A. The written motion for such an action, bearing the signatures of at least registered members, must be submitted at a regular or special meeting. The officer shall be given the opportunity to respond to the motion at a hearing. The motion will be voted upon. A two-thirds vote of the FSBA members is required to effect the removal. Section V.8: Vacancy In the event the presidency falls vacant, the Vice President shall have the option of becoming the President. In this instance, the Council shall elect a new Vice President. The Vice President shall also have the option of refusing the office of the presidency, in which case the Vice President shall serve as President pro tempore until such time as the FSBA is able to elect a new President. Subsequent to the election of the President, the President pro tempore shall reassume the office and duties of Vice President. In the event of a vacancy in any other Executive Officer position, an election to complete the current term will be held no later than the second meeting of the FSBA following the occurrence of the vacancy. Election procedures will be in accordance with the current provisions of this Constitution and any Bylaws Council shall enact. An interim officer may be appointed by the President to hold office until such time as an election can be held. Article IV - Executive Committee (if needed): Size, composition, and removal of the Committee. The executive council of the FSBA will consist of the President, Vice President(s), Treasurer, Web Master/Secretary and the head of any sport that are being played that semester, along with the speaker chair. President will be in charge of all executive communication, planning of events and be the liaison between the student body and faculty; the treasurer will handle all financing and funding with the union. Officers will be relieved of their position if they fail to adhere to the Fisher Honor Code or miss 3 consecutive committee meetings in a row. Our advisor has all final say on officer removal. Article V - Standing Committees (if needed): Names, purposes, and composition. Intramural Sports Committee - In charge of putting together intramural sports teams Distinguished Speaker Committee - In charge of bringing in speakers for people with and interest in a career that combines business and sports Activities Committee - Organize and conduct other events that fall within the goals of the FSBA Article VI – Adviser(s) or Advisory Board: Qualification Criteria. Article VII – Meetings of the Organization: Required meetings and their frequency. One general meetings of the membership is required each academic term except for summer. Committee meeting will be required more often. Article VIII – Method of Amending Constitution: Proposals, notice, and voting requirements. Proposed amendments will be in writing, will not be acted upon but read in the general meeting in which they are proposed. A proposed amendment will be read again at the next general meeting and a votes will be taken. A two-thirds of the entire voting membership of the organization present for the amendment to pass. The constitution is not intended to be amended easily or frequently. Article IX – Method of Dissolution of Organization The FSBA shall be disbanded if membership falls below 10 members. The membership shall disband and any assets of the FSBA shall be turned over to the MBAA or the Fisher School of Business. By-Laws Article 1 – Parliamentary Authority The rules contained in Roberts Rules of Order shall govern the organization in all cases to which they are applicable, and in which they are not inconsistent with the by-laws of this organization. Article II- Membership Any member of a Fisher graduate program may be a member. Dues will be $20 for one year or $30 for two years to pay for expenses such as food and drinks for meetings, gifts for speakers, and any other expense that the executive team deems necessary. Article III- Election / Appointment of Government Leadership Elections rules and procedures, including eligibility for office, the nominating process, design of ballots and balloting procedures, and so on should be specified as well as appointment and ratification procedures. The timing of elections and/or appointments should be specified along with procedures to cover special circumstances (resignations, impeachments, etc.). Article IV - Adviser Responsibilities Article V - Meeting Requirements Any meeting for a change in by-laws, or constitution a majority (greater than 50%) of current registered members must be present. Article VI - Method of Amending By-Laws Proposed amendments will be in writing, will not be acted upon but read in the general meeting in which they are proposed. A proposed amendment will be read again at the next general meeting and a votes will be taken. Two-thirds of the entire voting membership of the organization need to be present for the amendment to pass. The constitution is not intended to be amended easily or frequently.
