Activity sheet –
R1 Rocks and
Landscapes
In this section we will study four main rock types that are abundant in the
UK. These include, Granite which was formed about 280 million years
ago. Carboniferous limestone this was formed some 340 million years
ago. Chalk formed during the Cretaceous period. Finally Clay, this formed
on many different occasions throughout geological time but especially
during the Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary periods. However we will
focus on clay formed during the Cretaceous period.
1. Add labels to the geological time scale to show when granite,
carboniferous limestone, chalk and clay formed.
2. How much time passes between the beginning of the carboniferous
period and the end of the cretaceous period?
