Objective
The unsaved child will acknowledge that God is the one true God and
believe on Jesus.
Interaction with children
Main Ev.
Teaching
There is only one true God—believe in Him!
Word Up! God is powerful to deliver!
MT for Saved
Love God by remembering Who He is!
One lamb without spot or blemish was required to spare the life of each firstborn in Egypt.
Thousands of years later, Jesus—the firstborn Son—would become the sacrificial Lamb to save
the world from sin. Basic concepts covered in this lesson include: 1. Bible: There are many
proofs that the Bible is true, including archaeological discoveries. 2. God: Omnipotent – He is
all-powerful. 3. Jesus: is the only perfect man so the only one who can pay the penalty for sin.

Lesson 2 –God Shows His Greatness to Pharaoh
INTRODUCTION - DARK
1► What do you think of when you hear the word
power? Who are some people who have power? (Allow responses.)
Presidents and kings and queens have power, don’t they?
But there is someone who has more power than all those
people put together. He has all power! Who do you think
this is? Have children answer together - God! 2►What are some ways
God showed His power in our Bible lesson last week? (Allow
response. Be ready to correct any misconceptions the kids may have.)
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
3►Moses obeyed God and started traveling to Egypt
with his wife and two sons. God told Aaron, Moses’ older
brother, to meet Moses in the wilderness (desert) and
together they arrived in Egypt.
4►Aaron told the Israelite leaders that God knew
about their slavery and was going to deliver them! Word
Up! God is powerful to deliver!1 To prove to the leaders
they were speaking for God, Moses and Aaron showed them
the signs God had shown Moses. Do you remember what
sign we talked about last time?2 (Allow response.)
5►Moses’ staff turned into a snake then back into a staff!
When the Israelite leaders saw the signs, they knew
God had heard them. They bowed down and worshipped
God. He had heard their prayers and would deliver them!
Word Up! God is powerful to deliver!
6►Then Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and gave
him God’s message. What did they tell Pharaoh? “God says,
‘Let my people go!”3 But Pharaoh said*4, (read Exodus 5:2
“Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice and let Israel
go? I do not know the Lord, and…I will not let Israel go.”ESV)
Pharaoh did not know or care about the one true God. God’s
people were suffering because of Pharaoh’s hard, sinful heart.

7►Your heart is who you really are—your personality,
your thoughts, your dreams and goals.5 When you are
controlled by sin, your heart becomes hard to the one true
God. Sin is wanting to do what you want to do instead of
what God tells you to do. Maybe you do what feels good to
you, even if it hurts someone else—calling someone a mean
name, telling lies about someone, pushing your way to be
first in line or getting angry if you aren’t chosen first for
games. Those actions hurt others and are sins against our
perfect God. The Bible says this about our hearts: (read Jer.
17:9 A human heart is more dishonest than anything else.
It can’t be healed. Who can understand it? NIRV) You were
born with a sinful heart that tricks you into thinking it is best
to go against God. There is a punishment for your sin. It is to
be separated from God, who loves you—separated from Him
now on Earth and forever. Sin causes our hearts to be hard.
-(VIDEO 2A ENDS HERE)
8►Pharaoh’s sinful, hard heart was causing God’s
people to suffer. Pharaoh even said*, “Because of you, the
Israelites aren’t getting their work done!” 9►That same day
Pharaoh made the Israelites’ lives even harder by giving
them even more work to do! Because of this, the people of
Israel were angry with Moses and Aaron. The people said*,
“See what you’ve done? You’ve made our lives even harder
now! You have made Pharaoh hate us!”
10►Moses was so sad. He cried out to God*. (Read
Ex. 5:22 “O Lord, why have you done evil to this people?
Why did you ever send me?” ESV) God answered Moses by
reminding Moses of three very important truths. The first
truth was*, ► “I am the Lord—God Almighty!” Almighty
means all-powerful. God reminded Moses of who He is.

(VIDEO 2B STARTS HERE)-
11►God is the one true God! He has all power and all
knowledge. He always keeps His promises. He is
truth—He cannot lie. These are important things about God
that He wants you to know about Himself. (Read Isaiah
45:5a together from the screen. “I am the Lord, and there
is no other, besides me there is no God.”) God has power to
make the whole world and keep it running. He knows every
detail about every fish in the sea and star in the sky and He
knows everything about you, His most special creation. He
knows everything that is going on in your life. 12►This
gold heart is a reminder that He loves you more perfectly
than any human possibly could. This is who God is. He is
the one true God.
-(VIDEO 2B ENDS HERE)
13►God was reminding Moses of who He is. Let’s
say together, “God is almighty!”
14►God told Moses another truth*: “I will deliver
my people from the Egyptians. They will live in the land I
promised to Abraham.” God was working to deliver His
people from the Egyptians even though they didn’t know
how it would happen. They were safe in God’s strong care
for them. Word Up! God is powerful to deliver!
God ended His talk with Moses by saying one more
time*, “I am the Lord!” 15►Thumbs up if you think the
Israelites were encouraged when Moses and Aaron told
them what God said. Thumbs down if you think they
wouldn’t listen. They did not listen. All they could think
about was how hard slavery was. They forgot that God is so
much bigger and stronger and would deliver them. Word
Up! God is powerful to deliver!
16►The Egyptians worshipped over 2,000 false gods.
They had a god for everything—crops, babies, water, the
God’s Power: Escape From Eygpt L.2
sun, frogs and even bugs! They tried to make these gods
happy so their lives would be easier. But the one true God
was about to show the Egyptians that He is God—the only
God! God would do this by sending plagues to Egypt.
Plagues are terrible troubles that affect a lot of people at one
time. Each of the different kinds of plagues would be worse
than the one before. They would show Pharaoh, the
Egyptians and the Israelites that God is great and is the one
true God.
17►Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said *,
“God says ‘Let my people go.’ You have not obeyed. Now
you will know that God is the Lord!”
18►Aaron took Moses’ staff,6 stretched it over the
Nile River and the river turned to blood!7 The Nile was
where the Egyptians got their water and they worshipped it
as a god. But the one true God is almighty and showed the
Egyptians that He is in control! For a week the Nile was red
with blood. Fish died. People couldn’t drink the water or
take baths. The land was stinky. And yet Pharaoh did not let
God’s people go.
19►God sent eight more plagues. Each plague was
worse than the last and showed God’s power over a god that
the Egyptians worshipped. 2-Frogs everywhere! 3&4-Gnats
and Flies. 5&6-Animals died and people had sores
everywhere. 7-Hail killed animals and plants. 8-Locusts (a
kind of grasshopper) ate any plant that was left. 9-Thick
darkness over the land.
During many of the plagues God protected His people
and they were not affected by them. God was taking care of
His people and showing them and the Egyptians that He is
the one true God!

20►After each plague Moses said to Pharaoh, “God
says, ‘Let my people go!’” Through all these terrible plagues
Pharaoh still would not let God’s people go. Pharaoh’s heart
was hard. God told Moses He was going to send one more
plague to Egypt. After this one Pharaoh would let the
Israelites go. Even though Pharaoh’s heart was hard, the
people of Egypt were beginning to pay attention to God’s
power.
Moses went to Pharaoh and delivered God’s message
about the last and most terrible plague. At midnight the
firstborn (the oldest) of every family and of the animals they
owned would die. Everyone in Egypt would cry out in grief
and sadness because of this. But Israel would not be harmed.
Even with this warning, Pharaoh would not let the people
go. 21►God explained why to Moses*. (Read Exodus 11:9
“Pharaoh will not listen to you, that my wonders may be
multiplied in the land of Egypt.” ESV)
Then God told Moses how the people of Israel would
be saved. 22►To show they trusted God to save them, each
family was to take home a one-year-old lamb that was as
perfect as possible. On the night when the firstborn would
die, the family was to kill the lamb and put the blood on the
sides and over the top of the door. The lambs would be the
substitute, dying in the place of the firstborn of the Israelites.
This was God’s plan to save His people from death and save
them from suffering in slavery in Egypt. This was also a
picture of God’s bigger plan to send a Savior to save people
from the death and suffering of sin.

(VIDEO 2C STARTS HERE)-
23►God’s big plan is for you too. Sin hardens your
heart so you cannot know or love God. You cannot
save yourself from your sinful heart. That’s why you need to
be saved. You need someone else to take your place so your
sin can be forgiven. Many, many years after Moses lived,
►God kept His promise to send the Savior through
Abraham’s family. This Savior would be perfect and without
sin. He would die in the place of all the sinners in the
world—including you and me. The Savior is Jesus, God the
Son! He is called the “Lamb of God.” When God told the
Israelites to kill a perfect lamb to take the place of the
firstborn, this was a picture of what Jesus would do. Jesus
was beaten and nailed to a cross. Blood came from His
body. He died. But on the third day He came alive again!
Because Jesus loves you and me so much, He took the place
for everyone’s sin once for all. (Read Heb. 10:10 – God’s
will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body
of Jesus Christ, once for all time. NLT) Because Jesus died,
came alive again and lives today ruling in Heaven, you can
know and love God. This is God’s plan to save you!
-(VIDEO 2C ENDS HERE)
24►God’s plan to save His people meant a perfect
lamb needed to die as the substitute for the firstborn child.
When midnight came, God would pass over the
houses of the people who had trusted Him and put blood on
the sides and top of their door. God also said they were to
cook the lamb and eat it as they were getting ready to leave
Egypt. 25►This meal was to be called “the Passover.”8 God
wanted His people to celebrate this feast every year to
remind them of how He saw their need and kept His promise
to deliver them. Word Up! God is powerful to deliver! He

wanted His people to remember that He is Almighty God
and to remember the perfect lamb was their substitute.

26►If you have believed on Jesus as your Savior,
remember how God has shown His love and power!
The first way was by saving you from the punishment of sin.
If you have believed that God is loving and powerful enough
to raise Jesus from the dead and save you from sin, will you
also believe that God is lovingly and powerfully working in
the details of your life? Maybe there have been times when
you didn’t know what to do and God helped you to know
after reading His Word.9 Or maybe there was a time when
you were very sad and God comforted you by reminding
you of what He is like. Or maybe something happened to
you that you didn’t understand, then later you looked back
and realized how God was taking care of you. It’s important
to stop and remember the things God has done in your life to
remind yourself of how loving and powerful He is! (Read
Psalm 77:11a – I will remember the deeds of the Lord; ESV)
27►Love God by remembering who He is10. You can even
write down things God has done in your life and use that to
praise and thank Him. Then when hard times come, you can
look back and remember how loving and powerful God has
been in the past. He is still loving and powerful now. He will
take care of you now! Love God by remembering who He is.
28►God said He wanted His people to always
remember how loving and powerful He is so they were to
celebrate the Passover every year.
29►Moses explained God’s instructions to the people
and they trusted God and obeyed Him. 30►At midnight
God went throughout the land of Egypt. If there was no
perfect blood on the doors, the oldest of each family, both
people and animals, died—just as God said. Families in
God’s Power: Escape From Eygpt L.2
every house all over Egypt started crying and wailing
because of the sadness of death.
CLEAN - CLIMAX
31►But there was no crying among the Israelites
because God had passed over their homes and saved them
from death! Word Up! God is powerful to deliver!
CONCLUSION
This was the plague that caused Pharaoh’s heart to be
obedient to God’s command, just as God said it would be.
32►Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron into his palace and
said, “Go! Take your families and your animals and your
possessions and leave!” God had shown His power to the
Egyptians and to Pharaoh. Now everyone knew Word Up!
God is powerful to deliver!

INVITATION11
33►God showed His power to deliver you from sin’s
punishment when Jesus died on the cross and came
alive again. (Read Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus
and you will be save,” ESV) To believe is to trust that Jesus
is God the Son who took your punishment for your sin.
34►When you put your trust in Jesus, you will have your
sin forgiven and be given a new, clean heart. Then you will
be able to come near to God and know and love Him like He
wants you to. 35►Have you believed on Jesus as your
Deliverer from the punishment of sin? –(VIDEO 2D ENDS HERE)
36►Please bow your head and close your eyes. This
is a time to think about you. If have never trusted in Jesus as
your Savior and would like to do that today, or if you have
questions about what that means, show me by raising your
hand. (Acknowledge responses.) If you raised your hand,
you may meet me (designate time and location) and we can
talk more about what it means to believe on Jesus.
