Before the Romans arrived, the Iberian Peninsula was inhabited by pre-Roman peoples: Celtici, Iberians and colonisers Celtici lived in fortified settlements (castros) Pre-Roman Hispania Iberians lived in walled settlements Greeks and Phoenicians created colonies and factories on the Mediterranean coast Colonisers The Carthaginians entered into conflict with Rome over control of the Peninsula What have we learned? The conquest of the Iberian Peninsula by the Romans began in 218 B.C.
