Spelling Homework Activities *This is a list of spelling homework activities you may choose from for your spelling homework assignments. **** The words with a star next to them mean that this homework counts for two nights. 1. Rainbow Words- Write your words and trace over them in 3 different colors. **2. Ransom Words- Cut letters out of newspaper, magazines, or write them out on paper. Then cut and glue them together to build your words. 3. Word Search- Create a word search using graph paper. Find your words and circle them. 4. Font-abulous- Type your words in 3 different fonts on the computer. Print it out and bring it to school. 5. 3 Way Words- Write your words three ways: really big, really small, and in your best handwriting. **6. Spelling Sentences- Use the word in a sentence, and underline the word. 7. ABC Order- Write your words in abc/alphabetical order. **8. Silly Riddle Words- Write a riddle for each of your words. Include a clue about how the word is spelled. Solve your riddles. (Ex. The word is 4 letters long. The first letter is b and it rhymes with shark.) **9. Crossword Puzzle- Create a crossword puzzle on puzzlemaker.com. Solve it. 10. Syllable Spelling- Write your words breaking them up into syllables **11. Spelling Story – Use your spelling words in a story. Underline the words. 12. Scrabble Spelling – Use the sheet from your teacher. **13. Silly sentences – use your spelling words in crazy sentences 14. Synonyms or antonyms – write your spelling word and then write the synonym or the antonym. **15. Alliteration/tongue twister – use your spelling words in an alliteration/tongue twister 16. Pictures – choose 10 words and draw a picture to represent the word. Write the spelling word below the picture. 17. Hidden Picture – Draw and color a picture. Hide your spelling words in the picture and see if someone can find them. 18. Backwards – Write your spelling words forward and then backwards. Write neatly. 19. Code Words – Write a code for each letter of the alphabet. Then spell out your words in the hidden code. Give your list to a friend and see if they can solve it. 20. Other Handed – Write your spelling hand with your dominant hand. Then, write your words again in your non-dominate hand. 21. Exercise Words – Practice your words while doing jumping jacks, sit ups, and other exercises. Write down the exercises you completed and have an adult at home sign your paper. 22. 3D Words – Use clay, playdough, Wiki sticks, pipe cleaners, toothpicks, or any other object to make your words.
