COLD WAR FOREIGN POLICY PROJECT
The Cold War was a period of tension between the superpowers, the United States and the
Soviet Union, countries with democratic and communist governments following World War II.
Both sides thought their political and economic systems were the best and vied for hegemony
in the world. Many people feared the Cold War would erupt into World War III as many “hot
spots” and conflicting foreign policies emerged during the post-war period.
Working with a partner, you are to create a book or pamphlet that covers the foreign policy of
the United States and the Soviet Union from 1945-1960.
The material on the foreign policy of the post WW II era (1945-1960) can be found in your
textbook, The American Vision, Chapter 13, p. 626-657. The booklet will be due upon
completion of the chapter in class discussions, about two (2) weeks. To complete this booklet,
follow the instructions below:
*Read the chapter and write a summary of the decade in your own words (what are
the big ideas?)
*Create a map on post- WW II Europe
*Create a timeline showing the major events of the period
*Identify the winner of the elections, along with political party
*Identify the terms on the list (supplied for you)
*Answer the questions about the period (supplied for you)
*Choose who you think should be the top ten people of the decade and explain why
you chose them
*Choose what you think are the top ten events of the decade and explain why you
chose them
You may arrange the information any way you wish; make sure it is in a logical sequence.
If you have any questions, you may email Mrs. Ashton at [email protected]
Power point presentations will be posted on the class website along with these instructions to
assist you with this project.
