... Protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor 22 Protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor 22 (PTPN22) is a class I cysteine-based tyrosine phosphatase expressed in hematopoietic cells. In functional studies, PTPN22 exerts a negative regulatory function of T-cell receptor signaling [60,61]. The PTPN22 R ...

Probably more important role of leptin is to signal to body that body fat has fallen to dangerously low levels (for example during starvation) & thus signal that appropriate metabolic changes should occur to preserve metabolic resources. This current view of leptin was supported by the results of cl ...

Understanding Reads in RNA-Seq Analysis
Understanding Reads in RNA-Seq Analysis

... read is a read that fits the transcript model from the chosen annotation database. Compatible reads must be an exonic read (fully mapped to exon); however not all the exonic reads are compatible with a transcript, e.g., in paired end reads, both end reads have to be exonic as well as they both have ...

The roles of iron in health and disease

... Even though the amount of iron bound to transferrin is less than 1% (approximately 4 mg) of the total body iron store, it is the most signi®cant iron pool and has the highest turnover. The turnover of transferrin-bound iron is about 25 mg/day. Of this transferrin-bound iron, 80% is transported to th ...

... The story is not clear at the moment: Some reports suggest that myostatin mRNA or circulating myostatin does decrease after resistance training (Roth et al., 2003;Zambon et al., 2003;Walker et al., 2004) whereas others suggest it does not (Willoughby, 2004). NEDD9

Neural precursor cell expressed developmentally down-regulated protein 9 (NEDD-9) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NEDD9 gene. NEDD-9 is also known as enhancer of filamentation 1 (EF1), CRK-associated substrate-related protein (CAS-L), and Cas scaffolding protein family member 2 (CASS2). An important paralog of this gene is BCAR1.
