Optical properties of small-bore hollow glass waveguides

... shows the measured beam profile of the 250-µm-bore straight waveguide. The lowest-order mode of the waveguide 1HE11 mode2 is maintained nearly perfectly because of the smooth inner surface and the high uniformity in the cross section of the waveguide. Other hollow guides that are made from plastic a ...

... The Hγ line and the redshifted Hα line are heavily contaminated by other emission and/or absorption lines as had been said before. Therefore, the correlation coefficient is smaller in the wings of these lines. From now on we will consider only the Hβ, HeIλ5876, and HeIIλ4686 lines for a more detaile ...

While the edges in (b) are clear and small structures can be detected, the quantitative relation between phase-contrast image and objec ...

... confusing background sources had to be removed. For identification of background sources, we compared our radio maps with those of the Condon (1987), NVSS1 , and FIRST2 surveys. We then applied the “subtraction” method (Chyży et al. 2003) and removed all confusing sources from the maps. For clear d ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
