Democritus predict the existence of atom but today we now know that the existence of atom is the real and even there are some stuffs which is smaller than the Atom we now believed them they are real. 1 Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle
1 Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle

... A question that has been studied ever since Heisenberg’s original paper is whether a precise inequality can be established for the case where actual measurements are made on a quantum system. As of October, 2013, this has not been definitively settled, but we can discuss the general framework present ...

This is why they all have long lifetimes. However, you can produce particles from the second and third generati ...

Quantum field theory

In theoretical physics, quantum field theory (QFT) is a theoretical framework for constructing quantum mechanical models of subatomic particles in particle physics and quasiparticles in condensed matter physics. A QFT treats particles as excited states of an underlying physical field, so these are called field quanta. In quantum field theory, quantum mechanical interactions between particles are described by interaction terms between the corresponding underlying fields.
