Organizing L.A.'s Volunteer Power Since 1991 Operations Internship: Volunteer Event Planning L.A. Works: L.A. Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer action center that creates and implements hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Founded in 1991, L.A. Works addresses three principal needs: to increase volunteer participation in the community; to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations to achieve their missions through access to volunteer labor and other resources; and to educate and encourage people to engage in the broader social issues affecting the greater Los Angeles community. Operations, BusinessWorks Program: L.A.’s leader in corporate community service and volunteering, our BusinessWorks program is setting a new trend in corporate philanthropy that is focused on action, innovation, and impact. L.A. Works partners with nonprofit organizations to custom-design a community service experience that fits the interests of a team of corporate volunteers. The Operation Department’s role in the BusinessWorks program is to identify nonprofit organizations that might benefit from a team of volunteers, plan the projects appropriate for the volunteers, and lead them on their day of service. Operations, Days of Service Program: .LA. Works annual days of service gather thousands of Angelenos to build the community through a variety of service projects, including neighborhood beautification and literacy improvement. Through these service days, businesses can build its brand and culture while receiving public recognition in event advertising, newsletters, website, and social media. The Operation Department’s role in the Days of Service program is to select a nonprofit or school site that can benefit from hundreds of volunteers on a single day (and is appropriate for a large group), plan the projects appropriate for the volunteers, train the leadership for the day, and lead them at the event. Internship Program: The candidate has the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector, learn about volunteer event planning, identify unmet community needs, gain leadership experience and contribute to the BusinessWorks and Days of Service programs. This position is open year-round. Applicants seeking academic credit must make their own arrangements with their host institution in advance. Responsibilities: The L.A. Works internship experience incorporates writing, community outreach, research, sponsor meetings, creative brainstorming and the ability to get it done! Requirements: Passion for community service. Excellent written communication and research skills are a must; computer experience in Microsoft Office; good organizational skills and attention to details and deadlines. Enthusiastic and eager to learn, professional and independent. Equipment Requirements: Personal transportation, laptop and cell phone. Hours: 10+ hours a week, days and times negotiable.
