Efectos no lineales fotoinducidos en cristales líquidos Ciencia Ergo Sum, vol. 8, núm. 3, noviembre, 2001 Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México Toluca, México Available in: http://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=10402206 Abstract In this work we present two examples applying an analytical formalism, which allows us to describe various non linear optical phenomena in liquid crystals. First, we analyze the propagation of plane waves in rectangular cells with nematic liquid crystal cores, by taking into account its cupling with the nematic orientation. Next, we investigate the propagation of a wavepacket in the cell. It is shown that a waveguide effect exists in the propogation of the optical fields and that transverse magnetic modes of electromagnetic radiation can propogate like optical solutions. In the absence of absorption, we calculate various soliton properties. Keywords wave guides, liquid crystals, non linear waves.
