Course Syllabus
Mrs. Thacker
What is Personal Finance?
This course will inform students how individual choices directly influence
occupational goals and future earnings potential. Real world topics covered will
include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving and
investing. Students will design personal and household budgets utilizing checking
and saving accounts, gain knowledge in finance, debt and credit management, and
evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. This course will provide a
foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions
leading to financial independence.

*These items will be provided for you if needed; however, if you have your own
please bring them.
Class Structure
We will begin class each day with basic skills practice and a bell ringer. Bell Ringer
sheets will be handed out on Monday, and taken up on Friday (25 points per
week). You will be expected to come to class every day prepared to work as soon
as the bell rings. Your Learning Target and Daily Agenda are posted on the white
board – please check this each day to see what we will be doing in class. Class
work will consist of notes, worksheets, hands-on activities, quizzes, and tests. We
have a lot of material to cover, so come prepared to work the entire period, each
day.
Grading
Daily Work – 60%
Tests/Quizzes – 20%
Final Exam – 20%
