sometimes a different part of the brain
can take over those functions.

the brain’s neurons, but comprises only
10% of the brain

The cerebral cortex is the outer edge of
the cerebrum.

• Hindbrain-The oldest part of the brain.
The human hindbrain is structurally very
similar to the hindbrains of other
vertebrates.
• It includes structures that carry out
functions most essential for survival:
sleeping/waking, breathing, blood flow

hindbrain. All sensory and motor
information passing back and forth
between the forebrain and spinal cord
must go through the midbrain.
• It contains important centers for
regulating body movement in response
to visual or auditory stimulation.

• Most prominent part of the mammalian
brain.
• The greatest difference between human
brains and those of other primates is the
size of the forebrain. Humans have
considerably larger forebrains
The Frontal Lobe
• The advanced development of the
frontal lobe enables humans to:
-have goal-directed behavior
-concentrate
-control emotions and temperament
*It is also involved in many aspects of
personality.
