Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday
and was able to enjoy time spent with friends and family!

closer last month in reaching our goal of 120mins per
student and entering for a chance to win tickets to a
hockey game. I know we will continue working hard on
our home reading and reach our goal for January!

This week students will write about what they think
Santa is doing now that Christmas is over. They will learn
how to organize a paragraph and create topic and closing
sentences, as well as work on detail.
Spelling focus
Math
Students will be learning the 2 apart mental math
strategy to add to their repertoire of strategies that help
them add smaller numbers. We will also begin talking
about problem solving strategies.
Science
Students will learn about the basics of matter: solid,
liquid, and gas as we continue our unit about liquids.
We will review “tion” word
patterns as well as discuss
compound words and
practice spelling “oi” (soil,
noise) and “io” (lion, riot)
words.
We will also review
compound words which are
part of our spelling words
this week.
