Cell Analogy Project
Your task is to create a poster that demonstrates a well-thought out analogy of the structure and
functions of a eukaryotic animal cell. You will draw the cell as a place or item, such as a school
building (you may not use a school building as yours…it is MY example.)
Your poster would have a basic floor plan of the inside of a school. You would label various parts of
your school as a specific cell organelle and explain why (analogy). For example, I might say that the
storage closets in the school are vacuoles because they are a place for storage of waste or extra
materials (which is the function of a vacuole in the cell.) Or, I might say that the administrative
office is the nucleus, because that is where the instructions for carrying out school functions are
stored (like DNA is in charge of cellular function.) Again, you may not use this example.
For each organelle listed below, you need to label it on the diagram. You must also give a written
explanation for each organelle (near the organelle) on the poster. This needs to be neat, creative,
well explained, and in color. See the rubric below.
