CELL ORGANELLE ANALOGY PROJECT Using the diagrams on pages174-181 of your textbook, you will create a postersized drawing of an animal or plant cell and label its organelles (see details below). Next to each label (organelle) you will provide a picture and your analogy to the cell part. You must explain how your analogy relates to the organelle’s function. Be creative! Example: a closet is like a vacuole because both vacuoles and closets store materials. You are required to complete this project independently. The 15 required cell parts are: vacuole nuclear envelope cytoskeleton ribosomes (ER) endoplasmic reticulum For Animal cells only: For Plant cells only: plasma membrane chromatin (DNA) Golgi apparatus cytoplasm nucleus mitochondria lysosome nucleolus Cilia OR Flagella, AND centrioles Chloroplasts and Cell Wall Categories & Points: Drawing and Neatness Cell is hand-drawn and colored on poster board. The drawing itself should be no less than 12in. by 12in. (25 points) Title that describes the type of cell and the analogy comparison (5 points) Colorful (10 points) Neatness (10 points) All 15 cell parts are labeled correctly and analogy is clear and concise (45 points) Lines extend from each cell part. At the end of the arrow, the part is labeled and the analogy picture & description are all present (in the same place) (5 points) Grading of the above will be based on the fact that: All 15 cell parts have analogy pictures from magazines or from the computer that are representative of the organelle function. Analogies are in complete sentences, well-written and creative. All analogies relate to the FUNCTION of the cell part Total points possible for this project: 100 POINTS! Due at the beginning of class Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Use the chart below to plot out you analogy for each organelle Organelle vacuole nuclear envelope cytoskeleton ribosomes lysosomes plasma membrane chromatin (DNA) Golgi Apparatus cytoplasm nucleus nucleolus endoplasmic reticulum (ER) mitochondria Cilia or flagella (ANIMALS ONLY) centrioles (ANIMAL ONLY) Chloroplasts (PLANTS ONLY) Cell Wall (PLANTS ONLY) Analogy
