Chemical Co-ordination and
Endocrine Glands
Learning
output
After completing this lesson students should be able to…
 tell the definition of chemical co-ordination
 tell the location of different types of endocrine glands
 describe the functions of different of endocrine glands.
Chemical Co-ordination
A group of cells releases hormones which
regulates the activities of others cells of the
body is called chemical coordination .
Pineal
Pituitary
Thyroid
Parathyroid
Thymus
Adrenal
Pancreas
Ovary
Testis
Pituitary Gland
1. STH: Controls growth of tissue, bones, metabolic process
and break down of glycogen.
2. TSH: Secretion of thyroxin and intake of iodine by the
tissue.
3. ACTH: Regulates the adrenal gland and influence of
melanocyte production.
4. LH: In male- testosterone, endrogene, in femaleprogesterone .
5. FSH: Producing and development of sperm and ovum. .
6.ADH: Increasing blood pressure, absorbing water
by kidney.
7. Oxytocin : Contraction of uterus and regulates
lactation.
Thyroid Gland
Thyroxin hormone: Increases the metabolism of
iodine, protein and carbohydrates.
Pituitary Gland
Thyroid Gland and Parathyroid Gland
Parathyroid Gland
Parath or parathyroid hormone: Calcium
releasing from bone, calcium absorbing from
food and preventing calcium loss by urine.
Team work
Group-A
Group-B
Write down the
location and functions
of pituitary glands
Write down the
location of thyroid
and parathyroid
glands and their
functions.
Evaluation
Having seen a dwarf man and patient of
goiter Dr. Islam said to his friend , “ the
abnormal activities of two special glands are
responsible for the condition of two men.”
a. What is gland?
b. Why is the pituitary called the master gland ?
c. Describe the function and structure of the
mentioned gland concerned with the fist man.
d. Analyze the statement of doctor.
Home Work
Write down the names of hormones and their
functions of pituitary glands.
