Texas Symbols
• Texas is a land of rich history and culture. Its
symbols represent a people who are as diverse
as the land is vast.
The State Flag
Lone Star
• Symbol of loyalty, independence, bravery, and
strength
• Official flag of the Republic of Texas in 1839
The State Bird
Mockingbird
• Legend has it that Texas chose the mockingbird because the bird is
"a fighter for the protection of his home, falling, if need be, in its
defense, like any true Texan...“
• Can Mimic up to 200 songs and imitate sounds of other animals
The Bluebonnet
Blue as Can Be
• State flower
• There are six species of bluebonnets- and there were six
flags over Texas
• Found along roadsides
• Looks like a woman’s sunbonnet
The State Tree
Pecan Tree
• Native pecan trees have shown to be an
estimated 150 years old
• Can grow an average of 70-100 feet tall!
