Absolute location – the exact position of a place on Earth
Boundary - A border or edge of a place
Compass rose- The direction marker on a map that tells you N, S, E, W
Continent – one of Earth’s seven large land areas
Equator - An imaginary line between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres
Hemisphere - One half of the Earth (Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western)
Latitude - lines that runs east and west on a map to help locate a position
(fatitude)
Longitude – lines that runs north and south on a map to help locate a
position
Map key or legend - The part of a map that explains what the symbols on a
map stand for
Meridians – another name for lines of longitude (get closer together at the poles)
Panhandle – the northern part of Texas that that stretches to Oklahoma
Parallels – another name for lines of latitude (lines that are always the same distance
apart)
Prime Meridian - An imaginary line between the Eastern and Western
Hemispheres
Region – an area made up of places that have the same physical features
Relative location – the position of a place compared to one or more other
places on Earth
