Science Lesson Plan Cells Lesson plan 14 Grade:5th Teacher: All Indicators: 5-2.1 Recall that the cell as the smallest unit of life and identify its major structures Topic: Cell Objective: The students will be able to recall the cell as the smallest unit of living material. Vocabulary: (Cell, Unicellular, Multicellular) cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, vacuoles Instructional Activity/ Procedure: 1. The students will read as and class or in pairs pages 26 and 27 in the text book. 2. Teacher will discuss. 3. We will, as a class, review the definition of cell unicellular and multi cellular and define the parts of the cell: cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, and vacuoles. (Notes) 4. Students will be asked to label a chart with the different parts of a cell. 5. For homework students will complete their KWL chart with what they have learned today and any new questions they may have. 6. Exit ticket Materials Science book pgs 26-27 KWL chart Cell Vocabulary sheet Cell diagram Assessments: Teacher questioning Teacher observations Vocabulary sheet Kwl chart Diagram Questions: 1. Explain how a cell membrane is like a sandwich bag. 2. The cytoplasm in all cells is made up mostly of water. Explain hot this relates to why it is important for all of us to drink plenty of water. 3. The nucleus controls all of a cells activities. Explain which body of your body parts is similar to the nucleus of a cell. 4. What is the main function of the cell membrane? 5. What is the main function of the nucleus? ***Early finishers: Science based materials are located in the room under the sign that says “Early Finishers”. Reflection
