Week 7, Day Three **TOC. Did you work on your notes?** HW # 22: Read and take notes: Chapter 14, SecCon 3-‐ Due FRIDAY. Warm Up-‐ Copy. What are the key parts in the cardiovascular system? What are the key parts in the respiratory system? Correct last night’s homework. -‐-‐ •  Field Trip debrief •  Respiratory System •  Discussion and Diagram Look at the diagram. Try to label as many parts as you can. Use the definiCons on the next page for clues. Respiratory System Chapter 14 secCon 3 Purpose •  The respiratory system moves oxygen from the outside environment into the body. It also removes carbon dioxide and water from the body. Why do we need oxygen? •  We need oxygen for an energy-‐releasing chemical reacCons that take place in our cells. •  The process in which oxygen and glucose undergo a complex series of chemical reacCons inside cells is called respira'on. Where does the air go? •  The air travels from the outside environment to the lungs, it passes through the following structures: nose, pharynx, trachea, and bronchi. Where does gas exchange occur? •  AWer air enters the alveolus, oxygen passes through the wall of the alveolus and then through the capillary wall into the blood. •  Carbon dioxide and water pass from the blood into the alveoli. The delivery of oxygen to body cells and the removal of carbon dioxide from body cells depend on the funcCons of both the circulatory system and the respiratory system. With your team, explain, in wriCng, how funcCons in both of these systems are affected when gas exchange in the lungs is reduced. Give specific details in describing changes that may occur. Warm up-‐ closure: What are the key parts in the cardiovascular system? What are the key parts in the respiratory system? Homework details: Chapter 14, read and take notes. SecCons 1 through 3.
