Weneedtherespiratorysystemsothatwecanhaveoxygeninour bodies.Ourbodiescannotstoreoxygenbuttheycanstorenutrients. Thefirststageinthesystemiswhenyouinhaleoxygenthroughyour mouthornose. Thentheoxygentravelsdownthetrachea(windpipe)tothelungsand thentosmallerpassagescalledbronchialtubes. Next,theoxygengoestothealveoliandthentravelstothecapillaries. Fromthecapillaries,theoxygenentersthebloodstreamandis transportedalloverthebodyinourbloodcells. Aftertheoxygengetsuseduparoundourbody,itbecomescarbon dioxideandyouexhaleit.Whenyouexhalethecarbondioxide(awaste product),leavesyourbody. Therespiratorysystemisconnectedtothecirculatorysystembecause whenyoubreatheyourheartbeatsandtheoxygentravelsaroundthe bodyinthebloodcells.Itisalsoconnectedtothenervoussystem becausethebrainispartofthenervoussystemandthebraintellsus whattodo.Thebraintellsyoutobreathe.
