HolzingerGroup–ResearchTracks KnowledgeDiscoveryandInteractiveMachineLearning ”Scienceistotestcrazyideas–EngineeringistobringtheseideasintoBusiness” Smart health and ubiquitous biomedical sensor networks [1], produce large, complex, high‐ dimensional,weakly‐structureddatasets[2],andincreasingvolumesofunstructuredinformation[3]. Whetherinsocialnetworks[4],orinbiomedicineandhealth[5],theseincreasinglylargerdatarequire novelefficientanduseablesolutionsandapplicationsofintelligentubiquitouscomputing. A synergistic combination of methodologies of two areas offer ideal conditions towards unraveling data problems: Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) and Knowledge Discovery/Data Mining (KDD) with the goal to support human intelligence with machine learning, to discover novel, previously unknowninsightsintothedata[6]. We work passionately on innovative topics, e.g. on (❶ see picture below) data integration, data fusion, data preprocessing, as well as in mapping of data from → [7, 8]; on (❷) interactive algorithms in machine learning („human‐in‐the‐loop“) (Deep Learning vs. Shallow Learning), incl. evolutionary algorithms [9, 10]; on graph‐based data mining (❸,[11]), entropy‐based data mining (❹,[12]), andonalgebraic‐topologicalapproaches(❺,[13]);eventually,onuser‐centered/interactive visualizationoftheresults(❻, 14,15 .Across‐sectionalmandatorytopicalongallourareasisdata protection,privacy,safetyandsecurity(❼ 16,17 .
