Energy TEST-Light, Sound, Electricity (and magnetism)
Steps for studying:
Step 1- Nature of Science
Can you STILL correctly identify variables (I hope so!!!)? This is woven throughout our entire year, so it is still being
assessed…your original test for this is in the EOC/CFE section of your notebook. Your electricity centers and waves
centers readdressed test/outcome variables. Remember….ITMLX DORRY (see J#3!!!).
Review Nature of Science tipsFOCUS on Variable identification. Use the below to review:
 J# 3 "Our" Scientific Method
 Test in the EOC section of your binder.
Step 2-Review Waves It has been a while!
Start by reviewing your Waves Study Guide (J#11-answers on my
website too!) then go over your corrected waves quiz (J#12). THEN….go back through the ** WAVES study game on
the resources section of my website (Scroll down a bit). How do you feel about this information? Do you remember it?
If so, move on. If not, review J# 6-10. THEN, RE-TEST yourself using your quiz AGAIN. *Newest review game has a lot
of waves review (the game we will play the day before the test).
Waves tips
Focus on Sound (Mechanical) vs. Light (Electromagnetic Energy), speed of transfer through different mediums,
properties (wavelength, frequency, amplitude), Electromagnetic Spectrum (amount of energy classifies types), Doppler
Effect (Honors only), reflection, refraction, diffraction, interference. Also, know the differences between medium
properties (opaque, translucent, transparent). Use the below to review:
J# 6 Light and Sound Viewing Guide (Answers online)
J#7 Light and Sound video exit pass
J#8 Light and Sound Centers (Answers online)
J#9 Light and Sound Fusion (Answers online)
J#10 Waves HW (Answers online)
J#11 Light and Sound Study Guide (Answers online)
J#12 Waves Quiz
Step 3-Review Thermal Energy
THIS is the portion that has not been formally assessed beyond a quiz, BUT you will tested on this.
J#13 Thermal Energy Lab (Answers online)
J#14 Thermal Energy Lab Exit Pass
J#15 Cornell Notes (PowerPoint on Resources) for Heat Transfer.
J#16 Heat Transfer Stations (review)/ Honors-Thermodynamic Systems (Answers online)
J#17 Thermal Energy Mini-Quiz
Step 4-Review Electrical Energy

J#18 Magnetism and Static Electricity Cornell Notes
o What are the major properties of magnets? What does ferromagnetic mean?
o How could you PROVE that a compass is a magnet and not just a ferromagnetic material?
o Can you make something that is ferromagnetic into a temporary magnet? How? *Include domains here.
*What does domain mean? *my pictures on the board…notes posted on web.
o Magnetic field…the area surrounding a magnet where the non-contact force of magnetism acts. What did the
field finder (the rectangle clear block with iron filings) look like when N met N, S met S, and N met S on a
magnet?
o What part of the atom is shared during static electricity?
o How are charged objects similar to magnetism?
o What did Bob and Fred show us?




J#19 Electricity Cornell Notes—GO BACK AND VIEW THIS POWERPOINT!!! AND J#14 Exit Pass
o Go back and view this AGAIN! ….it is great for vocabulary and clarification. Make flashcards with the
information! *You MUST know the difference between conductors, a semi-conductors, and insulators.
J#20 Electricity Vocabulary
o All of these words are necessary to know….flashcards!
J#22 Electric Circuits Explorations
o What is the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit?
o What is a conductor? Insulator? Examples of each?
o What are some variables I could change within a circuit and what would those affect? *Think about
what happens when the number of bulbs are changed, number of batteries, amount of electric current
(which is the number of batteries)? *Nature of science!
o Honors--What is Ohm’s law (Triangle)? *Know those three factors within electricity—Water example
helps!
o Honors--Can you do basic calculations using Ohm’s law?
o Honors—Can you calculate work and power for electricity?
J#23 Circuit Practice and the Scientific Method
o This was review (review of Nature of Science TOO!), but remember that you can go to the simulator
on my website and practice using circuits!
**Remember…..ALL of this, Light, Sound, Waves, Thermal Energy, and Electricity…..ALL can be explained within the
realm of the LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY: Energy cannot be created NOR destroyed, only changed or
converted. THINK: A Battery (chemical energy) sent current through the wires of a circuit (converted to electrical
energy), which powered light bulbs (light energy (electromagnetic energy) and thermal energy (heat) was unusable
energy in this process, BUT it came from the chemical energy of the battery!!! HUGE content right here!!!
STEP 5—Review using the STUDY GAME played in class the day before your test!
It will be posted on the resource section after school the day we play it.
Reminders:
 Answers to most Journal Pages are posted on www.mrs-twedt.com. USE THEM!
 Make sure you have all the correct answers to your tests! Come ask if you aren’t sure!
 I am available for help! USE me!
 Don’t forget about all the extra credit BrainPops…(gotta score 100%) due the day of the test *Take a pic of
your results….better than emailing b/c I don’t always get them! If I don’t, no credit….sorry!
OLD ones---Sound, Light, Waves (cannot do these for Extra credit….already assigned, but still practice!).
NEW ones--- Electromagnetic Spectrum (more waves help), Electromagnets, Electricity, Static Electricity,
Electric Circuits, (HONORS only—Electric Current)
Any others you find that help you? Run them by me first. I HIGHLY suggest that even if you already did these,
DO THEM AGAIN!
 Study games, simulators, videos, other helpful information can be found on the resource section on my website!
