Steps for studying:
Step 1- Nature of Science
Can you still correctly indentify variables? Do you know the difference between a theory and a law? This is woven
throughout, so it will continually be assessed (ie., in electricity, you have Ohm’s law…why is it a law? …to be addressed
Thursday). RE-TEST yourself using your corrected TEST. It is in the FCAT section of your notebook.
Review Nature of Science tipsFOCUS on Variable identification and Theory vs. Law. Use the below to review:

Step 2-Review ENERGY Basics.
START by reviewing your corrected Energy Quiz (J#11). How do you feel about
this information? Do you remember it? If so, move on to Step 3. If not, review J# 5-10. THEN RE-TEST yourself using
your quiz AGAIN.

Energy Transfers (Law of Conservation of Energy) tips
Focus on energy conversions. This is application of Energy Basics above! Here, we focused a lot on Mechanical,
Chemical, and THERMAL energy (Honors--heat vs. temperature....looking at kinetic molecular movement of molecules—
Average is temp, Total is thermal, and Heat is transfer). Use the below to review:

Waves tips
Focus on Sound (Mechanical) vs. Light (Electromagnetic Energy), speed of transfer through different mediums,
properties (wavelength, frequency, amplitude), Electromagnetic Spectrum (amount of energy classifies types), Doppler
Effect, reflection, refraction, diffraction, interference. Also, know the differences between medium properties (opaque,
translucent, transparent). Use the below to review:

Step 5-Review Electricity (this information is laid out like my normal study guides):
THIS is the only portion that has not been formally assessed, so you know there will be a good amount tested on this.

o Parts of the atom and how they relate to electricity.
o Make SURE you know what electric current is and what it is measured by (unit), voltage is and what it is
measured by (unit), resistance is and is measured by (unit).
 J#31 Magnetism and Static Electricity Cornell Notes
o What are the major properties of magnets? What does ferromagnetic mean?
o How could you PROVE that a compass is a magnet and not just a ferromagnetic material?
o Can you make something that is ferromagnetic into a temporary magnet? How? *Include domains
here. *What does domain mean? *my pictures on the board…notes posted on web.
o Magnetic field…the area surrounding a magnet where the non-contact force of magnetism acts. What
did the field finder (the rectangle clear block with iron filings) look like when N met N, S met S, and N
met S on a magnet?
o What part of the atom is shared during static electricity?
o How are charged objects similar to magnetism?
o What did Bob and Fred show us?

o Go back and view this AGAIN! ….it is great for vocabulary and clarification. Make flashcards with the
information! *You MUST know the difference between conductors, a semi-conductors, and insulators.

o What is the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit?
o What is a conductor? Insulator? Examples of each?
o What are some variables I could change within a circuit and what would those affect? *Think about
what happens when the number of bulbs are changed, number of batteries, amount of electric current
(which is the number of batteries)?
o What is Ohm’s law (Triangle)? *Know those three factors within electricity—Water example helps!
o Can you do basic calculations using Ohm’s law?

o This was review, but remember that you can go to the simulator on my website and practice using
circuits!
