About the Position
Zymeworks is looking for an entry-level Protein Engineer / Structural Biologist who will
participate in structure-guided in silico protein-optimization projects using our proprietary
molecular-modeling and simulation software. This position is based in Vancouver, BC,
and will report to the Director of Protein Engineering.
Roles and Responsibilities
•
Perform research and feasibility studies into proposed protein-engineering
projects.
•
Plan and execute protein-therapeutic-optimization projects covering phases of
structural modeling and engineered design proposal generation.
•
Develop assay protocols and collaborate with laboratory personnel and CRO staff
to screen engineered designs.
•
Collaborate on protein engineering projects with our Preclinical team and external
partners. Work closely with Project Managers to track project development.
Check, organize, analyze, and report data produced by external partners.
•
Peer-review and collaborate in protein engineering efforts of the team.
•
Collaborate with the software development team to advance our modeling,
simulation, and visualization tools.
•
Participate in the preparation of patents and publications.
Qualifications and Experience
•
Structural Biologists with a PhD in Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology,
or related field; Recent PhD graduates and post-doctorate fellows with relevant
experience are encouraged to apply.
•
Experience with molecular-model building, simulation and visualizing packages
(MOE, VMD, Rosetta, COOT, Pymol, AMBER, CHARMM etc.)
•
Experience in protein expression, purification and biophysical/biochemical
characterization. Experience with UPLC/SEC, DSC/DSF, SPR, LC-MS, ELISA,
FACS, etc is an advantage.
•
Demonstrated ability to participate in collaborative scientific projects.

•
Exceptional communication skills (written/spoken English).
•
Meticulous organization, record keeping and reporting.
•
Knowledge and practical experience with the structural biology of therapeutic
proteins, especially antibodies, is preferred.
•
Other assets include: experience with cell biology, immunology, organic
chemistry, mass spectrometry analysis, homology modeling, protein-structure
prediction, protein folding and macromolecular simulation.
