MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
Samaritans is looking for a Business Systems Analyst who will bring vision and pragmatism to
ensuring data capture, storage and analysis is robust and fit for purpose, which will in turn contribute
towards the success of the organisation’s new strategy (2015-2021). This role is expected to be
involved in all stages of a project cycle but must also appreciate Samaritan’s infrastructure as a whole
in order to realise the vision of an effective interconnected suite of data systems.

Responsible for the creation and implementation of the organisation’s strategy for data
systems, which excludes (in the short term) data processes currently managed by the existing
fundraising system and direct emotional support services
Line management of the data systems team
Supporting and covering for the Head of Information Systems as required
Budget management and sign-off limits in accordance with the financial policy for a manager
QUALIFICATIONS



Degree level or equivalent qualifications
Membership of professional body or institution, such as internal institute of Business Analysis
(IIBA), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or similar would be advantageous
Salesforce ADM201 certification is desirable

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in design, implementation and
management of data systems aligned to the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Previous experience should include the following:






Extensive experience of managing and using complex CRM solutions and databases
Project Management experience (preferably in process improvement or IS
programmes/projects)
Experience in the software change and acceptance testing process
Previous industry experience within the charity/third sector (desirable)
Proven data and process interrogation, analytical and evaluating skills
Experience in the development and implementation of standards, procedures and guidelines
to support operational processes

Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise complex workloads
Strong communication and negotiation skills at all levels and experience of crossdepartmental working with the ability to write succinctly and make effective presentations

PART 2: DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data systems and solution design









Develop and maintain a documented systems roadmap and data strategy
Improve systems and processes by studying current practices and designing modifications
Recommend controls by identifying problems and writing improved procedures
Assess potential solutions for both business and technical suitability
Be considerate of other systems and be mindful of the appropriate time to connect them
Ensure that all data systems are fit for business purpose and in line with the signed off /
agreed requirements documentation
Establish and maintain configuration/build standards for all data systems and storage
Responsible for release management and installation of software
Monitor and manage all data systems to the agreed data protection, retention and
confidentiality strategies

Project management






Work closely with external partners as well as end users (both staff and volunteers) to ensure
technical compatibility and user satisfaction
Define project requirements by identifying project milestones, phases, and elements, forming
project teams and establishing project budgets
Support the creation and approval of a business case for all activities
Monitor project progress by tracking activity, resolving problems, producing progress reports
and recommending actions
Coordinate the thorough testing of any new process developed
Oversee the implementation of any new process
Salesforce administration and support





Maintain system protocols by documenting appropriate procedures
Provide references for users by writing and maintaining user documentation, providing
support via the IT Service Desk and training users
Act as the decision maker on escalation of issues to external support
Maintain user confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
Prepare technical reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends
General duties of an IS team member





Contribute to the efficient running of the IS team
Attend IS team meetings
Provide support and assistance to other members of the IS team as requested by the Head of
Information Systems
Investigate and implement best practice with regards to data processes and improvement
Keep abreast of technology developments both within and outside of Samaritans’ industry
through creating a network of colleagues and attending industry / technology seminars as
appropriate to help Samaritans deliver and maintain competitive advantage
General duties of a Samaritans’ staff member






Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the General Office as appropriate
Participate, as appropriate, in staff forums and meetings
Adhere to all Samaritans’ polices and procedures
Represent the General Office appropriately across Samaritans to the wider community as
appropriate
Treat all colleagues, volunteers and members of the public with dignity and work within and
adhere to Samaritans’ equal opportunities statement and polices
Carry out any reasonable requests made that are within the broad remit of the role
