Predation discussion papers:
Please have a question ready when you arrive at class. We will collect them and
shuffle them up and redistribute them.
Read the Paine (1966) paper first.

Scroll down and take a look at the image titled “Mussel bed, Tatoosh Island,
Washington”. This gives you an idea of the experiment described in the Paine (1966)
paper, and the observations discussed in the Paine and Trimble (2004) paper

1. What hypothesis does Paine propose to explain the diversity of rocky intertidal marine
organisms?
2. What are the direct vs indirect effects of Pisaster?
