JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Database Administrator – SQL DBA Location: Falmouth, Cornwall Reporting To: Head of Business Systems Primary Objectives Ensure availability and uptime of the business’s critical database systems through: o Capacity planning and performance tuning and o Monitoring and troubleshooting of database performance Maintenance of the SQL database structures and database instances used for Microsoft AX and Visual 2000 Working with the infrastructure team to maintain a disaster recovery plan and carry out DR testing Work with technical, project and functional staff to ensure database integrity and security Provide documentation and control of all database changes and developments Main Tasks and Key Areas of Work Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security; Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users Working with the BI reporting lead to ensure databases, data warehouses and reporting tools are available and performing adequately Working with the BI reporting lead and other members of the business systems team in database design Backup and recovery of the SQL databases Data Warehouse planning and development Maintenance of the Data Warehouse Infrastructure Data Cleansing using Data Quality Services Designing and maintaining T-SQL scripts and queries Monitoring and maintaining database replication and performance Liaising with infrastructure and data teams to ensure successful deployments and changes to ERP instances and environments Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS Writing and maintaining database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are in place and followed accordingly Producing performance reports Measurable Performance Targets Systems uptime and application availability Upgrades and developments are delivered to schedule Backup completed and restorations available Department and company objectives achieved Scope of Authority Gain approval from relevant senior management for particular projects Propose developments for budget approval Propose new processes for approval To work with other departments where necessary to achieve your targets Other specific requirements of the post: Keep confidential all company business Ability to work hours as required by the business To represent Seasalt Limited and promote its brand image through all activities Person specification for this post ASSESSMENT CRITERA ESSENTIAL SKILLS GCSE English & Maths Grade C or above QUALIFICATIONS WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS A good knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and office applications Other Technical Qualifications Other open source database systems (MySQL) Solid understanding of relational database systems Storage and Networking Proven Experience of Troubleshooting SQL including Database Integrity analysis, performance assessment, deadlocking, log and connectivity issues Retail and e-commerce experience Practical experience of performance tuning MS SQL Server Experience following change and release management processes Practical experience of SQL Server tools, query optimisation, T-SQL and SQL profiler Familiarity with deploying MS SQL monitoring and alerting tools A constant learner, familiar with current technology Experience of Seasalt current systems Experience of working in a fast paced deadline driven environment Experience of Microsoft AX Excellent communication skills Self-motivated, driven and proactive, takes the initiative Team worker Flexible and adaptable; able to manage multiple priorities Loyal Excellent evaluative and problem-solving skills Able to work under pressure and remain calm when dealing with a crisis The ability to deliver tasks as well as delegate tasks SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS Degree / A levels in relevant subject (computer science) MCSA SQL Server 2012 Strong organisational and planning skills PERSONAL SKILLS/ QUALITIES DESIRABLE SKILLS Evenings and weekends on odd occasions.
