					Diatonic Triads: Major Scale  You can build a triad on every note in a major scale just by using the notes in the scale. Major Scales Triads  These chords are identified by roman numerals OR by the name of the scale degree the triad is built on. Major Scales Triads  Upper case roman numerals are used for major chords (i.e. I, IV, V)  Lower case roman numerals are used for minor chords (i.e. ii, iii, vi)  The seventh chord is a diminished chord and is represented with lower case roman numerals and a circle. (i.e. vii◦) Roman numerals Only three chords from the major scale are Major. They are the I chord or the tonic, the IV chord or the subdominant, and the V chord or the dominant. These are called the primary chords. Many folk, pop, and classical songs just use these three chords. The Primary Triads Primary Triads in C Major What are the Primary Triads in the examples above?  One of the most popular chord progressions in popular music.
