CELL-A-BRATION
Standards:
cells differ from animal cells.
that have been broken down from our food.
Directions: Currently, we are studying cells. To help us learn about cells, each lab group will complete ONE of the
following assignments. Use your own words for all definitions. Do not copy straight out of the book.
Discuss which option your lab group will do. Then, have one person type their option in the front of the class. First
come, first pick.
Project Due Date: 9/20/16
Points Possible: 100 points
Content & Accuracy: 50
Creativity & Neatness: 50
1. Cell Model
Create a cell model using a drawing software like Google Draw . The cell must be a plant or animal cell. If your cell is an
animal cell, be sure to include all the following organelles: cell membrane, nucleus, and DNA (chromatin), mitochondria,
lysosomes, golgi bodies, vacuoles, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, cytoplasm, cilia or flagellum (choose one). If your
cell is a plant cell you must also include the cell wall and the chloroplasts. Plant cells do not have cilia, flagellum and fewer
lysosomes. Your cell must have its organelles labeled and a table of all the organelles and a description of their function.
Use your own words for all definitions.
2. Cell City
Your lab group will choose a city or place that is symbolic to a cell. For example, a supermarket can be
a cell. You can choose an animal or plant cell. You need to choose what the organelles will represent.
For example, the nucleus is the manager. Be creative. You will create this on any program like Google
drawing or Google Docs (not on poster paper). Fill out the table of the organelles
function/symbolism.
3.Cell Story
Your lab group will create a story about the cell’s organelles. The organelles need to be personified.
You can do either a plant or an animal cell’s organelles. Be creative. Fill out the table of the
organelles function/symbolism.
