RESEARCHING CHINESE DYNASTIES The Dynasties of China Sui Dynasty Historical Accomplishments Scientific Accomplishments Technological Accomplishments Tang Dynasty Song Dynasty Yuan (Mongol) Dynasty Ming Dynasty Qing Dynasty RESEARCHING CHINESE DYNASTIES The Dynasties of China (500 points) Introduction Chapter 7 examines the Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan (Mongol), Ming and Qing dynasties. Each contributed in unique ways to Chinese society and world history. You and a partner will investigate the achievements that made these dynasties distinct and that helped influence the history and traditions of China. You will research each dynasty. Then you will be assigned one dynasty and create a display of the important details. How did that dynasty earn the “mandate of heaven?” Research the 3 positive and 3 negative effects the dynasty had on the Chinese population and the environment. Based on the evidence, you will evaluate whether you would have supported or protested the dynasty. After you create your display you will give a presentation on your dynasty to the class. Project Plan As you read through chapter 7 make notes in the chart that was provided to you. Think about these questions as you make notes: What made one dynasty different from the other? Did any major event(s) occur during the reign of that dynasty? If so, how did that event change China or the world? What inventions, technological advances, or other accomplishments is the dynasty known for? How long did the dynasty rule China? How did the dynasty change life in China? How did this dynasty affect people and /or the natural environment? Did this dynasty have a positive or negative effect on people and the natural environment? Your note chart will be turned in for credit with your display. Include pages numbers. Will be graded as credit or no credit. Do not lose it. Planning Your Display Discuss ways to create a collection of materials that will tell the story of the dynasty. For example, you may produce posters or diagrams that explain scientific breakthroughs or technology used during the time of the dynasty. You may create models of inventions or murals that relate important historical events. Make sure you bring materials to class to produce your display in class. Presenting Your Display You and your partner will share responsibility for presenting in class. Your presentation should first focus on achievements and events that make the dynasty distinct. Then explain 3 positive and 3 negative effects the dynasty had on people and the environment. Finally, explain the facts and your personal perspective to argue your side. Your presentation should be at least 7 minutes long, but no longer than 10 minutes. Practice your presentation during class time the day before the presentation. In addition, practice establishing a connection with the audience. RESEARCHING CHINESE DYNASTIES Grade Criteria Thought and Content (25%): How deep did you get involved with the content? Was your information accurate? Writing and grammar (25%): Was your writing of good quality? Did you speak and write correctly? Were you succinct? (Did you say the most in the least amount of words?) Art: (25 %) Did you include art? Art is not something printed from the internet. Your display must include at least 50% of your original artwork. Your art is meant to show understanding of the text while helping you remember information through visual expression. Art will not be graded on artistic talent, only on the care and effort that were put into their completion. Performance: (25%) This grade will be based on the following criteria: o voice being loud and clear enough for the other students to understand o the accurate pronunciation and/or memorization of the words o there is a connection with the audience, and not just saying the words Score %: 100 95 90 85 80 75 70 65 60 50 N/C Needs improvement Adequate Showed Mastery of the Skill Thought and Content Thought and Content Thought and Content Writing and Grammar Writing and Grammar Writing and Grammar Art Art Art Performance Performance Performance
