SOMERCOTES MEDICAL CENTRE—PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP Minutes of meeting held Thursday 25th September 2014. Members present; Wendy North, Sheila Burt, Sandra Cauldwell-Clarke, Ena Fellowes, Jeah Smith, Margaret Yeomans, Dr Ed Pooley, Marion Leister. Apologies; Angie Curran-Bilbie, Jill Robinson, Dr Gale. Correspondence; E-mail.- received from Clare Haynes( Southern Derbyshire CCG) for Inspecting the quality of Health services. This will most likely require input from the PPG. This was a lengthy document which has been forwarded to Dr Pooley to sort out the relevant information for us. Minutes of last meeting; These were circulated , read and accepted as correct. Matters arising; Wendy reported that she helped on the stall for Oral Cancer Awareness and this was a very successful day giving leaflets and information. Dr Gale has approached schools re artwork for the corridor community gallery. Somercotes School is also interested and she has received pictures from the Local History Society. The Gallery will hopefully be opened on the 25th Oct ( 2nd Flu clinic day) Question of the week is going ahead—please think of possibilities. The first will most likely be----- Do you know we have a PPG ? PPG notice board has been updated; names and contacts displayed and minutes displayed for other patients to access. Hopefully people will read this. Bleep on the appointment board still being addressed. Very expensive project. The company will provide a new beep if this can be fixed by the Practice. Still ongoing !!! Car park issues raised were not a viable proposition and the moving of chairs in the waiting room would create too many other problems. Accessibility of leaflets was to be looked into. Other issues raised; Marion, the Practice Manager had re-instated the newsletter which had been well received. It contains all relevant and useful information, including PPG and welcomes people to our group We were very proud to see that the practice had receive the Bronze Dignity Award, only two awarded by DCC. This is an excellent achievement awarded for patient care which we feel should have been more widely publicised. Well done Somercotes. There was much discussion concerning repeat prescriptions given out by Doctors and Pharmacies — this often leads to waste of medication. This needs to be addressed by doctors and pharmacies to create a balance. It was decided that members of PPG could help at the forthcoming Flu clinics and also promote the PPG. The first is to be 4 th Oct; four members should be there. Others will help at the second one on 25th. Badges were given out so that members can be recognized. It was decided to try a later meeting next time to try to target working people and hopefully a few younger ones. Date of next meeting Thursday 4th Dec 2014 at 6pm.
