1. BEFORE YOU READ-In order to understand Euripides play, Medea, you will need gain the same
basic knowledge about the exploits of the Greek hero Jason that Euripides’
Greek audience would have had. Read the story of “Jason and the Golden

3. ASSIGNMENT—
Write a summary of each of the following sections of the play. The page
numbers listed are from the Rex Warner, Dover Thrift Edition. If you
read the play online, keep track of the scenes which are separated by long
sections sung by the chorus. A summary of a scene explains what
happened in the scene. A summary of a choral section (called a stasimon
by the Greeks) explains the main points made by the chorus in the song.
